Meyer confirmed that the inclusion of Zane Kirchner as the second fullback in the 31-man squad that leaves Friday will mean that Lambie will be able to try and tie down a permanent spot in the 10 jersey and won’t be expected to give cover at fullback.
While Lambie can always shift back in an emergency, the Bok coach revealed that the decision was taken after a long debate in the management team and was the key reason that the Boks went for five loose forwards and not six.
Meyer further confirmed that if there was an injury, a player could theoretically be drafted into the starting line-up, depending on the position he played.
“Pat would have covered 15 for us and Polly (Handre Pollard) or Morne (Steyn) 10, but I just felt that Pat played at fullback too long ago and it wouldn’t be fair to him,” Meyer told supersport.com in an exclusive interview.
