OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Motorsport enthusiasts were treated to an action-packed day of racing when the KKK Setup Race took place at the Oudtshoorn Oval Track on Saturday 13 June.
Drivers from across the Western Cape and beyond competed in several classes, providing spectators with thrilling wheel-to-wheel action throughout the day.
In the popular RWD Legends class, local driver Vian Verwey claimed top honours ahead of fellow Oudtshoorn competitor Morné Pelser. Zané Fourie from George rounded off the podium in third place.
The Ninja Rods division saw Divan Meyer from George secure the victory, with Dylan du Plessis from Cape Town finishing second.
George drivers dominated the 1600 Saloons category, with James Young taking first place and Johan Nortier finishing second. Troyden Maynard from Plettenberg Bay completed the top three.
In another fiercely contested division, Jaun le Roux from Cape Town emerged victorious ahead of Hendricus Botha from Oudtshoorn and Dominic Griessen, also from Cape Town.
The Hotrods class was dominated by George competitors, with Sydney van Rensburg taking the chequered flag ahead of Malan Walters and Cornel Krohn.
Francois Smit from Worcester claimed victory in the Heavy Metals category, while Graham Ferreira from George secured second place.
Oudtshoorn's Lucius Fourie delighted local supporters with a victory in the American Saloons division. Piet Combrink from George finished second, while Lizmari O'Callaghan from Worcester claimed third place.
In the 2.1 Modified Saloons category, local driver Burger van der Westhuizen took top honours ahead of Kobus Barnard from George and JP du Plessis from Plettenberg Bay.
The event once again showcased the growing popularity of oval-track racing in the Little Karoo, with competitors travelling from various towns to test their skills against some of the region's top drivers.
