SWIMMING NEWS - Fish Eagles Masters Swimming (FEMS) has assembled an impressive team of 16 who will represent the club at the upcoming SA National Championships.
This annual event will this year be held at Mbombela from 14 to 18 March.
The team includes some exceptional people, most of who have competed in multiple Masters and have many medals to attest to their swimming prowess:
- Buddy Borstlap (90-94 age group),
- Judy Dixon (80-84 age group),
- Cheryl Griffiths (75-79),
- Marilyn Orren and her brother Theo (70-75),
- Jill Black and Eugene Schoonbie (65-69).
Fish Eagles Masters swimming team is headed to the National Championship.
In the 60-64 age group there are four entrants:
Mandi and Cliff Wallace, Johan Kok and Lanie Farrelly, while the 55-59 group will see Elinor Durr, Jenny Sheehy and Cate Pietrobon taking part.
Tanya Osborne will compete in the 50-54 age group, and Erhardt Gerber, the youngest in the team, will take part in the 45-49 age group.
The group will be meeting in Mbombela to enjoy the competition, companionship and challenges of what Masters Swimming has to offer.
Fish Eagles Masters are very grateful to the sponsors who have made it possible for a team of 16 to be sent to the 38th SA Masters Championships:
- Glenwood House, where the club has the privilege of training six days a week;
- John Dory's, who sponsored the Short Course Champs last year and have stayed with the club for 2023;
- Ters of Top Gear Sport is the most consistent and enthusiastic sport supporter in George and is responsible for helping many of our local sports clubs;
- Tony Rorke of CTP has assisted with media and fundraising to enable Buddy to attend this event at age 90;
- and Eugene Shoonbie and Theo Pieterse who have donated towards expenses.
