SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Ryukyu Kobudo South Africa made history by hosting its first regional Kobudo tournament in George.
Local Kobudo students from George, Oudtshoorn and the Eastern Cape region also took part for the first time.
The contestants were judged by Okinawan certified Kobudo black belts from second dan and higher.
They were Rocher le Grange, Norman Reinach, Karin Fouché, Michael McLellan and Susan Alexander. Also in attendance was the national secretary from Cape Town, sensei Kamal Hamdulay.
Ryukyu Kobudo is now registered by Martial Arts South Africa (Masa) as a separate martial arts under the Japanese block.
The next Kobudo event will be the Western Cape traditional and non-traditional Ryukyu Kobudo Federation Tournament in Cape Town on 20 January 2018.
