GOLF NEWS - Amidst rain and rather gusty winds, the last four qualifiers for the final of the inaugural Race to Pezula were confirmed last week.
The previous three Race to Pezula series had all managed to avoid the rain. It had rained the day before or immediately after play, but we had always been lucky and managed two dry days of golf.
Sadly, for the fourth and final series on Thursday 5 October, the rain didn't stay away.
But, the weather didn't seem to phase the golfers at all. Despite having to take an hour-long break while they waited for the fog to clear, most of the players went back out again to finish their round and the mood in the clubhouse was brilliant.
Event sponsors Standard Bank and Melville Douglas had sent along six non-golfing representatives for the two days and they were amazed at everyone's good humour and willingness to play in spite of the unpleasant weather.

Luckily for the golfers, on Friday 6 October the weather was better behaved and 68 golfers set off on a blustery day to try and win the remaining four places in the final. Jonathan and Michelle Witts-Hewinson, as well as Leolin Anthony and Theo Adams, claimed the final four spots.
The 16 finalists and eight teams that are in place for the final on 18 November are:
- Series 1 – Zach de Beer and Rob Jackson, Brian Eksteen and Barry Theron
- Series 2 – Doug Roper and Joff Jacobs, Henk Meyer and Heyn Beyleveldt
- Series 3 – Kobus Gerber and Jacques Kruger, Ron Boon and Jonathan Wilk
- Series 4 – Jonathan and Michelle Witts-Hewinson, Leolin Anthony and Theo Adams
