OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The 2nd Annual Youth Youth Day Mini Soccer Tournament 2025 in honor of the National Youth day and our young soccer fanatics commenced this past weekend at the Infantry School in Oudtshoorn.
The tournament drew over 350 soccer players between the ages of 5 and 17, boys and girls as far as Mossel Bay and Dysselsdorp.
The event was also supported by members on the Platoon Sergeant and platoon course as approved by the Infantry School Officer Commanding Colonel Tiisetso Sekgobela. These members interacted with the players.
The U11 Alpha FC Oudtshoorn from the Infantry School junior football club were the overall winners for the second Annual Youth Day Mini Soccer Tournament 2025.
- U11: The U11 finals for the tournament took place between Alpha FC Oudtshoorn en El-Roi FC and the match ended in a draw of 1 - 1. Alpha FC Oudtshoorn beat El-Roi FC during a penalty shootout where they scored five goals and El-Roi FC Oudtshoorn two goals.
- U13: Alpha FC Oudtshoorn Infantry School junior was the overall winner scoring 2 - 1 against Universal FC.
Players who scored the goals were Zacharia Malgas and Jonathan Truter.
- U15: A game well played between Alpha FC Oudtshoorn vs Young Professionals FC, with score for Alpha FC Oudtshoorn in last minutes of the match with 3 - 2.
Unfortunately according the referee Gabriel Majolla the third goal of Alpha FC Oudtshoorn was ruled a foul and the game ended with a penalty shootout.
Alpha FC Oudtshoorn, scored five penalties and won second position, while the Young Professionals FC Mossel Bay scored six penalties and won becoming the overall winner overall for the U15s.
- U17: Semi-final took place between Superstrikers Football Club and Dysselsdorp team called OLFA FC.
OLFA FC won the semi-final when Brendino scored the winning goal for his team against Superstrikers FC with zero goals.
U17 final match for the 2nd Annual Youth Day Mini Soccer Tournament tournament was played between Alpha FC Odn the Infantry School junior football club and OLFA FC for the overall winning trophy and a full set soccer training equipment. This finals match was very competitive. Jamal Nathan an Alpha FC Odn player scored one goal and Evandre Pieterse scored one goal on behalf of OLFA FC. The match time ended in a draw of 1 - 1 where after the teams were supposed to proceed with penalties to determine the overall winner for the tournament.
Unfortunately due to the weather conditions and poor visibility the match was forced to stop since the lights at the Infantry School sports ground lights are not operational.
The U17s final match was than rescheduled for 9 August at the Infantry School sports ground at 10:00.

- U13 Player who scored the most goals during the season 2024/2025 is Jonathan Truter
- U15s Player who scored the most goals for the season 2024/2025 is Thabo Mohafa aka 'Mbape'
- U17 player who scored the most goals for the season 2024/2025 is Aloyise Giyama aka 'Messi'.
Special awards
The next special awards certificates were awarded to players who joined Alpha FC Odn five years ago when the team was created.
Their dedication and support towards the team are appreciated, according to Major Desiree Mawela.

Two players who received awards in absentia were William van Wyk and Neo Moseki.
The following players were awarded for loyalty, respect, dedication, commitment, hard work, team spirit and always attending practice as part of the Alpha FC Odn the Inf School Junior Football Club.

In support of this event prominent guests was in attendance such as Matika Mandilakhe who made a very generous contribution of sanitary pads towards the Infantry School junior football club girls team aka Alpha FC Oudtshoorn. The sanitary pads is a huge problem for the team.
A gift was also handed over in the absence of the Officer Commanding Infantry School, Col Tiisetso Sekgobela.
"The purpose of the gift from Alpha FC Oudtshoorn the Infantry School Junior FC is a token of appreciation towards Sekgobela, for allowing junior soccer teams around the Oudtshoorn community to utilise the facilities of the Infantry School," Mawela concluded.
