Bafana’s chances of qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations were dealt a massive blow by the 3-1 defeat to Mauritania on Saturday, and it was noticeable that some of Mashaba’s more trusted players looked a little rusty.
Central midfielders Dean Furman and Andile Jali, along with winger Mandla Masango and striker Tokelo Rantie were particularly poor in Nouakchott.
While he did not name names, Mashaba admitted after Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Senegal in the Nelson Mandela Challenge that he might have to make some minor alterations to his squad ahead of friendlies in Costa Rica and Honduras on October 8 and 13.
“The biggest problem we are sitting with is the question of a loss of form by certain players,” admitted Mashaba.
“Along those lines, we might be forced to change one, two or three players.”
