FOOTBALL NEWS - With word spreading about the promising Thembalethu-based side Future Stars Football Club, George Herald attended one of their practices on Monday afternoon, 27 February at the Jonga High School sport field.
Future Stars are proving their worth in the George Local Football Association (Geolfa) development league. The Stars currently have five divisions: u.13, u.15, u.17, u.19 and the senior team.
Future Stars was started by the soccer legends Zolani Makendlana and Thabiso Booysen early in 2021. Stars are currently playing in the Promotional League where they ended in fourth position in their stream.
The many hardships and social ills that trouble Thembalethu such as crime, alcohol abuse and drugs haven't managed to stop the high spirit of these youngsters who want to make it big in life.
Makendlana and Booysen said they are very pleased with the positive response from the young players and are excited about the way the team has grown and how it has inspired many kids to play football.
They focus on preparing the kids to not only be football stars, but also to go forward and excel in their academics.
"At the same time were are like parents to them; we are always motivating them to work harder in order to achieve better things in life." Future Stars look forward to seeing more support from the parents and the community.
Anyone who wants to join or contribute towards the club can contact Zolani Makendlana on 078 218 6096 or Thabiso Booysen on 062 450 7527.
