FOOTBALL NEWS - The sport-loving communities turned up in cold, rainy weather on Saturday afternoon, 28 October to support the George Local Football Association tournament at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
In the Promotional League, Future Stars advanced to the final after defeating George Vultures 2-0 in a difficult semi-final game at the Lawaaikamp Stadium. Both goals were scored by Welile Miggels for Future Stars.
The teams displayed great touches on the ball in the beginning phase of the game, but the left-footed Future Stars player, Welile Miggels, scored the opening goal. George Vultures came back in full force, employing the pace of Liyema Tukwayo to advance from the centre of the field, however, the stubborn defence of Future Stars kept Vultures from scoring.
Both sides were creating many chances in the box, but could not convert the opportunities into points on the score board. Future Stars were leading 1-0 into the break.
The second half saw both teams looking more determined. Two Future Stars players, Mihle Nethe and Zukisa Bokoda, were controlling the centre of the field, hunting for their second goal.
George Vultures were playing quick touches looking for the equalising goal, but their work proved to be in vain when the shot at the goal was denied by Future Stars goalkeeper Inamandla Mthonga.
The Stars kept on pressing and pushing on the right side side of the field and managed to break through the Vutures' back line, enabling Welile Miggels to score his second goal and put the Stars ahead 2-0.
George Vultures came close to scoring in the last minutes of the game, but their excellent work was again blocked by Future Stars goalkeeper Inamandla Mthonga and the game ended 2-0 with Future Stars going through to the final.
