FOOTBALL NEWS - With three fixtures remaining in the George Local Football Association (Geolfa) League, the race for the championship title is still on between Black Cats and Vista FC.
The Lawaaikamp boys Black Cats extended their lead in the Geolfa league with a classical performance when they sank Vista 1-0 in a tight game on Sunday afternoon at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
The only goal of the game was scored in the second half by Nkosiyabo Toto for Black Cats. So far they have played 27 games with twenty victories, four draws and three defeats and are sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 64 points.
Thembalethu side Vista are breathing down their necks in second position with 60 points after 27 fixtures with eighteen wins, six draws and three defeats.
Black Cats goalkeeper Likhona Mandla played very well and managed to go home with a clean sheet. In the first half it was clear that these were two evenly matched teams grinding to put a score on the board. Both teams displayed beautiful passes.
The exciting first half ended with a goalless draw.
The second half saw both teams more determined, playing attacking football in their quest for the first goal of the game.
Black Cats were relying on the pace of their wings to break through and Nkosiyabo Toto netted a goal after a cross from the centre of the field. Qhamani "the General" Nogqala dominated and controlled the game from the centre of the field with perfect ball distributions.
Vista players Thando Thombela and Malwande Msilelwa worked hard on the flanks trying their best to get an equalising goal, but it was not their day. Black Cats won 1-0, collecting all three points and boosting their lead with four points clear at the top of the table.
