OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The 11th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of SWD Cricket, since the establishment of the body as a non-profit company, was held at the SWD Cricket offices at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Saturday 26 July.
With a record attendance of clubs, Micheal Eksteen highlighted various successes for the period under review.
Although the two flagship teams, the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers men’s and women’s professional teams, underperformed, various successes were reported.
The notable achievements
• Jezé Campher (Hoërskool Môrester), who received the award as batter and all-rounder of the tournament in the Gold Section of the CSA Girls U16 National tournament that was hosted in Johannesburg during December 2024.
• Mariana Breedt (Hoërskool Outeniqua) and Emmy-Kay Samson (Oudtshoorn School of Skills) for being selected for the SA Schools Fillies Girls U19 team that was selected upon conclusion of the CSA Girls U19 National tournament that was hosted in Durban during December 2024.
• Enathi Kitshini (Thembalethu Hub), Shirwin Plaatjies (Bridgton Hub) and Keano Coerecius (Bridgton Hub) for being selected for the SA Hub team that participated in the Schools SA20 Knock-out competition.
• Enathi Kitshini: (Thembalethu Hub/High) selected for the Southern Superstars team that participated in the CSA Cubs that was hosted in Stellenbosch during January 2025, the SA Schools XI that was selected upon conclusion of the CSA Khaya Majola U19 National tournament that was hosted in Cape Town during December 2024 and the SA U19 team.
• Elridge Booysen was appointed as assistant coach for the SA Hub team participating in the Schools SA20 Knock-out competition.
• Wynand de Ridder was appointed head coach for the Southern Superstars team that participated in the CSA Cubs week hosted in Stellenbosch in January.
• Pieter Stuurman appointed as the head coach of the CSA Rural team.
• Anoxolo Kitshini selected for the CSA Rural team.
• Kerrin Klaaste (umpire)
- Officiated on the CSA Reserve panel.
- Officiated on the ICC International panel.
- Appointed to officiate in the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup in Malaysia in January.
- Appointed to officiate the international series in all formats between South Africa and England in December 2024.
- ICC men’s T20 International debut in September 2024 in Tanzania in September 2024.
• Lyndon Volkwyn, who officiated in the finals of the USSA A-tournament, CSA Rural Tournament, Khaya Majola National tournament and Schools SA 20 tournament.
• André Olivier (as umpire) officiated in the CSA First Class panel.
• Yolandi van der Westhuizen was appointed as the head coach of the SA Schools Fillies Girls’ U19 team that was selected upon conclusion of the CSA Girls U19 National tournament in Durban during December 2024.
• George van Heerden selected for the SA Emerging team (as captain) that toured Bangladesh in May and June 2025.
• Mieke de Ridder represented the Proteas in various white ball series, including the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE.
• Annerie Dercksen represented the Proteas across all formats, including the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE and received the Award as ICC newcomer of the Year for 2024.
Financial situation
A much-improved financial situation of the company, in comparison with 2023/24, was reported with a slightly better than break-even performance in 2024/25 compared with a deficit of R623 587 the previous financial year.
The income for the period under review has increased from R27 889 757 to R29 483 465.
Clyde Avontuur was elected as the new vice-president in the place of Carlos Koeberg, whose tenure as a director has ended. Andrew Jantjies (Thembalethu CC) and Philip Goliath (Western Hope CC) were both elected as new non-independent directors.
The financial and commercial director, Ross McMillan, has stepped down due to personal reasons and the Independent Nominations panel has nominated Heybre Ellis, whose nomination was accepted by the Members’ Council. Ellis is a chartered accountant by profession.
