ATHLETICS NEWS - Athletics South Africa (ASA) has welcomed Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife as the title sponsor of the ASA Senior Track & Field and Combined Events Championships that will be hosted at the Germiston Athletics Stadium in Johannesburg between 25-27 April.
The sponsorship agreement is for the duration of three years and the official name is now Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife ASA Senior Track & Field and Combined Events Championships.
The Senior Championships are the pinnacle of the track and field competition in South Africa boasting performances by the likes of Caster Semenya, Akani Simbine, Ruswahl Samaai and Luvo Manyonga as well as Wayde van Niekerk.
As always, South Africa can expect high quality competition with the sprints expected to lead attention where former world U18 200m silver medallist, Tlotliso Gift Leotlela will be making his return to the sport after an injury layoff. Will the SA 200m record holder, Clarence Munyai claim his first senior national sprint title? Can the “Tornado” from Thembisa, Ryan Mphahlele show his rivals a clean pair of heals in the men’s 1500m? Mphahlele has only just joined the senior ranks and is already making life hard for his more established contemporaries. Will Sunette Viljoen win her 10th national javelin title and Chris Harmse, will he be taking aim at his 12th consecutive national hammer throw title?
These are but just some of the incredible duels we can expect at the Championships. On the fast track of Germiston, spectators can look forward to some incredibly fast times in the sprint events.
“We are proud to welcome Sizwe Medical Fund & 3SixtyLife as the title sponsor of these Championships,” said Aleck Skhosana, the President of ASA. “With the standard of South African athletics having made tremendous international strides over the last few years, there is an ever-growing hunger by fans to witness South Africa’s best athletes competing on home soil.
