OUDTSHOORN NEWS - A council meeting that should have taken placed today 29 May, has been postponed.
Today's meeting was scheduled as a Special Council Meeting, but the budget was part of the agenda. Strong objections were made by both the DA and FF+, because the budget may only be served at a Ordinary Council Meeting. The other objection was the fact that the public was not invited to the meeting.
According to Aurelia Mle, spokesperson for the municipality the meeting is postponed to Thursday, 5 June at 09:00.
"This Ordinary Council Meeting holds great significance, as it includes the tabling of the municipal budget for the upcoming financial year, a critical component in directing service delivery and development priorities across the Greater Oudtshoorn. Furthermore, during this meeting, the Executive Mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn, Johan Allers, will deliver his official Budget Speech, outlining the municipality’s strategic financial plans, developmental focus areas, and service delivery commitments for the year ahead."
The public is hereby invited to attend the rescheduled meeting, which will take place as follows:
Venue: Municipal Banquet Hall
Date: Thursday, 5 June
Time: 09:00
Mle said the municipality remains committed to accountability and open governance and would like to afford the public an opportunity to attend the meeting.
"The municipality sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused. We remain committed to ensuring that Council processes are transparent, inclusive, and accessible."
