GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Eden District Municipality’s name has officially changed to the Garden Route District Municipality.
Western Cape Minister of Local Government Anton Bredell, officially approved the name change on 24 August.
The announcement was made in terms of the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act, 1998 (Act 117 of 1998), and proclaimed in the Western Cape Government Provincial Gazette. (Download the full copy of the Government Gazette No 7972: https://goo.gl/C4ALMy).
Elements of the new logo include the King Protea, the Outeniqua Mountains, the Ostrich and the sea. The King Protea is South Africa's national flower, and it is native to the Western Cape.
The Outeniqua Mountains have been included to depict the linkage between municipal areas on both sides of the mountains. The mountains separate the Northern and Southern parts of the Garden Route, but it can also be seen as linking the lush Southern part with the dry Northern part of the region.

The Ostrich resembles the Oudtshoorn and Kannaland municipal areas. With Oudtshoorn being the Ostrich capital of the world, it was important to incorporate it with the logo.
The blue swishes resemble the sea and our wetlands.
