OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed the election of Mziwoxolo Zoe Tyatya as executive mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality following a council meeting held on 7 April.
According to the ANC provincial spokesperson, Sifiso Mtsweni, the outcome reflects a collective commitment by coalition partners to prioritise the needs and interests of Oudtshoorn residents.
The ANC stated that the new administration's immediate focus should be on strengthening service delivery, including ensuring a reliable water supply, improved sanitation, effective road maintenance, and more responsive municipal services.
"In this regard, the coalition must act with urgency to address long-standing infrastructure challenges, improve turnaround times in resolving community complaints, and ensure that municipal resources are managed efficiently and transparently. Service delivery must not only improve but must be experienced consistently across all wards, particularly in historically underserved communities," said Mtsweni.
He added that the ANC is calling for a people-centred approach to governance, where communities are actively engaged in decision-making processes and regularly informed about municipal progress.
"Building a capable, ethical and accountable local government will be key to restoring public trust and driving sustainable development in Oudtshoorn."
