OUDTSHOORN NEWS - ANC chief whip, Zoë Tyatya, issued a statement today, 26 July, in which he explained the motion of no confidence passed yesterday in a council meeting against former mayor Chris Macpherson.
A motion of no confidence in Johan Allers, the Speaker, tabled by the ANC, was also on the agenda, but did not serve.
According to the statement the African National Congress tabled the motion, duly supported by the Freedom Front, Patriotic Alliance , OGI, Advies Kantoor and the Good Party and the motion was in favor of the ANC.
Tyatya stated further that they are of the opinion that, the municipality should continue with political head.
"Therefore we decided that the Speaker’s motion should stand over. We are also confident that the administration will continue and the service delivery will resume as normal. We will wait for the office of the Speaker to communicate with the Oudtshoorn Council for a date of the next Special Council Meeting."
He said that the support by these parties had successfully awarded the ANC the outright majority.
"This motion came as a result of intensive consultations with the community of Oudtshoorn through our structures. Our intention was to liberate the people of Oudtshoorn from the lack of service delivery from the Democratic Alliance led coalition . We had also stated during the meeting that the majority of councilors had lost confidence in that coalition and we strongly felt that change was and is necessary. We wish to congratulate and appreciate all the parties that voted with us in removing the DA coalition."
