“The community of Phoenix is still reeling with shock after an 80-year-old pensioner was brutally murdered at her residence on Wednesday at about 13:45,” said KZN police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala.
On Wednesday afternoon, the victim Mari Moses, was found dead in her Stanmore, Phoenix home after a neighbour became suspicious when the pensioner was not answering the knocks on her door. The Phoenix police were called to the scene.
“The deceased had been lying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds on her body,” said Gwala.
“There were traces of blood on the passage floor indicating that the deceased had been dragged to the kitchen.”
Moses had sustained two multiple stab wounds: two on the right side of her neck and one of the left and four to her left breast. Bruises and burns were also discovered on her stomach.
Gwala says that the motive for the killing had not yet been established. However, nothing was taken from the deceased’s home.
