Driver arrested after transporting 50 school children in Quantum

NATIONAL NEWS - Patensie police arrested a 31-year-old driver who was transporting 50 school children in a 15-seater Toyota Quantum.

The driver was arrested by Lt Loaan Steenkamp of the Patensie detective branch today (05/08/15).

According to police, Steenkamp noticed the driver was driving recklessly and immediately requested the driver to pull over. Fifty school children, between the ages of six and 12 years, got out of the 15-seater vehicle.

The driver was arrested on charges of reckless and negligent driving as well as overloading a vehicle.

The suspect is due to appear in the Hankey Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
