GEORGE NEWS - The body of a man was airlifted by helicopter from the Outeniqua Mountains on Wednesday 24 August after it was discovered by a group of hikers near the Tonnelbos trail the previous day.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, emergency services were alerted and the team commenced with a recovery operation.
“The body, with two tattoos - one on the left side of the neck and on the arm - still has to be identified and an autopsy to determine the cause of death will be conducted later,” Spies said.
The incident was also confirmed in a media statement by Keep Our Forests Safe (Kofs).
The investigation officer, Sgt John Boezak, urges the public to come forward with any information that could assist with the identification of the deceased.
