The report which was released today, analyses the socio economic and demographic profile of the youth in the country, focusing on various aspects including employment, education and access to housing and other basic services.
Statistician General Pali Lehohla has released the figures.
Stats SA says although less young people were living under the poverty line by the end of 2014, unemployment is still one of the major and most persistent problems facing the country.
It says it’s concerned that the share of the youth among the employed decreased from about 47 percent in 2009 to just under 40 percent in 2014.
The report also shows that the proportion of economically active youth declined over the past five years.
