NATIONAL NEWS AND VIDEO - Prof Andreas Diacon, the founder, director and CEO of TASK Foundation, a clinical research organisation based in Cape Town, and his team are conducting a study to determine if re-vaccinating people against tuberculosis, could lessen the severity of the effects of Covid-19.
Task was founded in 2005 by Prof Diacon to accelerate the development and evaluation of novel anti-tuberculosis drugs.
He developed an early interest in tuberculosis (TB) while training in a former TB sanatorium in the Swiss Alps. The town of Davos was considered ‘The Magic Mountain’ for patients suffering from consumption.
To perform clinical research, he relocated to South Africa in 2000 where he was fortunate enough to explore and eventually join the long tradition of clinical TB research at Stellenbosch University.
South African action man Jeff Ayliffe, the owner of Jeff Ayliffe Media, conducted a Zoom interview with Prof Deacon, his good paragliding and MTB friend, to hear more about the trial and to get his views on some burning Covid-19 issues.
