MOTORING NEWS - Due to financial constraints in the 1970s, former rally driver Hannes Grobler and his navigator, At Kriel, had to find a plan to communicate with each other as they had no money for a sophisticated intercom system in their vehicle.
A friend of Grobler's came to their rescue.
He attached handsets of normal phones (normal for those days) to their helmets and linked them to a basic communication device.
Maybe two tin cans and a piece of string would have worked as well!
