MOTORING NEWS - Today's increase brought the price of unleaded petrol to well over R16 - in line with the tough highs reached last year October.

The price of both 93 octane and 95 octane unleaded and lead replacement petrol increased by 54c/l.

Diesel 0.05 percent sulphur increased by 1c/l, while the price of diesel 0.005 percent sulphur remains unchanged.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin increased by 3c/l and the single maximum national retail price (SMNRP) of illuminating paraffin by 4c/l.

The maximum retail price for LPGas increases by 84c/kg.

The department of energy blamed international factors, including the rand/dollar exchange rate.

Ironically, the price of Brent crude oil dropped last Friday and by Monday at 13:00 was trading at $71,43 per barrel. The drop followed US President Donald Trump's request that Opec raise output to soften the impact of US sanctions against Iran.
