MOTORING NEWS - The first leg of the 2019 South African oval track championships hosted in George kicked off last weekend with loads of excitement attracting competitors from as far as Mpumalanga. The pavilion was jam-packed, and all the classes saw great action.
The most spectacular action was in the 1660 class with over 30 entries while the modified V8 class boasted 16 entries.
Quite a few drivers went home with damaged cars and bruised egos. In the 1660 class, Wesley Collins showed the crowd how to perform a car roll in a VW Golf right in front of the main pavilion. Luckily Collins sustained only minor injuries and was discharged from hospital on Sunday. See a video of the accident here courtesy of the site A Racers Blog on Facebook.
We haven't seen so many enjoyable races at the George track for quite some time and it was absolutely impossible to predict the winner of any of the heats. Unfortunately, on Saturday evening, the final heat in every class had to be cancelled due to heavy fog on the track. Because of various incidents on the track and the following appeals, the official results were still unavailable when AutoDealer went to press on Monday afternoon.
