OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The Oudtshoorn Municipality has issued an urgent appeal to all residents to co-operate in light of the heavy rainfall expected over the next few days.
Residents are requested to please remove all grates, garden refuse and any other obstructions from drainage furrows and water channels.
These channels play a vital role in the discharge of stormwater, and blocked drains can quickly lead to flooding and cause serious damage to properties.
The municipality is currently in the process of opening and removing all sluice gates where necessary to ensure that stormwater can flow freely into the rivers and to limit the flooding of homes and residential plots.
A serious appeal is also being made to residents not to close or replace these sluice gates during this period. Such actions significantly increase the risk of flooding and place other residents in danger.
Residents co-operation is of critical importance in limiting damage and ensuring the safety of our community.
