LOCAL NEWS - Municipal Manager Monde Stratu and the Garden Route District Municipality are parting ways.
Council today approved a mutual separation agreement with Stratu following a report from Mayor Marais Kruger.
Stratu's last day in office will be this Friday, 31 July when his fixed-term contract will be terminated by "mutual agreement".
In a press release issued by Kruger in his capacity as DA Garden Route District Caucus Leader, he says the DA Caucus believes that the municipality now has an opportunity to turn the page and restore a culture of professional administration, constructive intergovernmental relations and accountable governance.
"Recent events surrounding the Roads Agency Function illustrated the consequences of poor administrative leadership.
"Rather than working collaboratively to resolve matters in the interests of residents and employees, the municipality was drawn into prolonged legal, labour and governance disputes that delayed implementation and created uncertainty.
"The eventual resolution demonstrated that cooperation and lawful governance deliver better outcomes than unnecessary confrontation," Kruger states.
