Incumbent, Thuli Madonsela’s seven-year non-renewable term ends in October.
Last week, a multi-party parliamentary committee agreed to broaden the public’s involvement in the process of choosing Madonsela’s successor, by allowing them to scrutinise the CVs of potential candidates.
The committee is responsible for shortlisting, interviewing and nominating a candidate for appointment by the president.
Committee chairperson Makosi Khoza says, “The committee that is processing this position is a multi-party committee. Members of the public can also, if they so wish, submit proposals for some of the questions that they may wish to be asked to the candidates.”
