LIFESTYLE NEWS - The amount of data breaches from social media companies that people trusted has been astounding in the past few years.
These companies get people to sign up with their personal details only to sell their data to third parties. South Africa is said to be one of the most vulnerable countries in terms of information protection.
Large companies with millions of people’s information are yet to protect themselves from hackers.
To make matters worse, more and more websites are asking for permission to know your location and use cookies to track your internet browsing.
Here are some ways you can prevent getting tracked on your favourite browsers:
Firefox
Under Options in the Firefox settings menu, there are a number of different tabs that pertain to privacy protection. Go to Tracking Protection, this setting blocks online trackers that collect your browsing data across multiple websites. This tab asks whether you would like to use tracking protection to block known trackers. You can click any of the three options and you are also allowed to add exceptions.
Chrome
Under Settings on the Google Chrome menu, click advanced options and activate a tab which reads: Send a “Do Not Track” request with your browsing traffic. Under Privacy and Security, find Clear Browsing Data and check out the number of options under the heading. You can erase your browsing history as well as set up permissions for cookies on websites.
Safari
From the browser menu, select Private Browsing. Then under Preferences, select Privacy and set block cookies to always. Consider selecting Limit website access to location services to prevent location data from being disclosed.
Internet Explorer
Under Tools, select Delete Browser History. Under Tools, also select InPrivate Browsing. Also Under Tools, select Tracking Protection, then click on automatically block third party advertising.
