EDEN DISTRICT NEWS - The latest update on fires in the Eden District:
Mooihoek (Oudtshoorn area)
Eden Fire doing mopping up and protecting houses. Was assisted by CapeNature skid unit through the evening. Will remain the same for today with a contractor team of Waterval (10 members) added.
Also a fire line creeping down the mountain from the south. Will be anchored above CapeNature fire break and diverted away from structures towards a recent burned area in proximity of 2 km (Moordkuils).
Habitat farm toward Kouma River above farmlands
Backburn of 2km put in place from yesterday 10:00 - 22:30.
Crucial wetting and mop-up operations to continue throughout the day as 3 to 4 areas in gorges are quite dense.
Robinson Pass
Mopping up and patrolling of fire lines to continue throughout the day.
Geelhoutvlei Plantations
Mopping up operations will continue as the lines are also very long and will be done by 52 ground crew.
Western line toward Bonniedale
Mopping up operations to continue by CapeNature 2 skid units and 7 crew.
Weather
Mist clearing, getting warmer with a south | south easterly wind blowing moderately.
Good fire fighting efforts and favourable weather will ensure securing of all lines in this operational period.
