OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Oudtshoorn was founded in the 1850s and has a wealth of historical buildings. Why not take a day of your holiday, put on a pair of walking shoes and explore the town's history on foot?
Just as a matter of interest, the Oudtshoorn Courant is one of the oldest newspapers in the country. It printed its first edition on 28 May 1879 with a front page full of advertisements and notices of auctions.
Start your walk at the CP Nel museum and get a copy of Oudtshoorn Historical Walk. It contains a list of 27 historical landmarks in town as well as a map of the town showing each building. Then set off on your journey. Most of the buildings are in the CBD area with Arbeidsgenot, the home of CJ Langenhoven, about a kilometre from the centre of town.
When walking to Arbeidsgenot, make sure you use the long suspension bridge in Church Street, which hopefully will have been restored after being vandalised earlier this year.
