GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Fire update for the Garden Route areas that are still affected by the fires.
The burnout was successful and completed at 23:00. On the southern foot of the Jonkersberg mountain, above farmlands of Geelhoutboom and Groeneweide.
The second burnout planned for last night, on the Waboomskraal side, could not take place due to unfavourable weather conditions. Backburn operations are currently being re-assessed for completion.
A successful burn will prevent the fire to spread to the Doring Rivier farmlands. This will also ensure the containment of the Jonkersberg fire.
