GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The latest update on fires in the Garden Route.

WABOOMSKRAAL / JONKERSBERG - Active fire burning with a backburn to the south, partly in indigenous vegetation - from west to east.

This will cause a lot of smoke, therefore the public should not be concerned about the visibility of smoke.

The burn will be monitored by the teams on the site.

IMMEDIATE ACTIONS
Bulldozer busy constructing and widening existing firebreaks to enable a back burn toward the Eskom line to eliminate fire danger coming from the mountain.

North-west from Highlands Lodge on the ridge of the mountain, a short line is burning. Will be closely monitored and in favourable conditions ground teams will be deployed and/or a backburn will be conducted to prevent spreading to Doring River farm lands.

SOETKRAAL
Upon a Recce flight by SanParks, an assessment indicated that only an inside spot is currently active. Perimeter burned out.

DUBBELBERG
A fire line of approximately 2 km all around and 2+ km from the Dubbelberg plantation to the east, is burning with a slow backburn. Young veld in between and under close monitoring by PG Bison.

RIVERSDALE
At Garcia to the west towards Grootvaderbosch, the head of the fire is contained with the assistance of aerial resources.

On the south-east corner, close to Korenterivier and above the plantation, aerial resources will attempt preventing fire entering the plantations. Ground teams of WOF and Cape Nature are on the lines.

On the northern line, above Phesante Fontein, the Garden Route DM Fire Fighters are fighting a fire line to prevent spreading to farm lands.
