GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - After 10 years the Carpe Diem School Gourmets and Gourmands still delivers the magic.
The 2018 Carpe Diem School Gourmets and Gourmands will take place tomorrow, Saturday 25 August and the organisers are proud to have their stalwarts' backing to ensure another glorious event. The most important part of the success of the Gourmets and Gourmands is the community of the Garden Route. With a theme of Boerekos and Bollywood it's sure to be an evening of culinary innovation and extravagance.
François Ferreira, the dedicated patron of Carpe Diem School, has been an integral part of the Gourmets and Gourmands since its inception, and the François Ferreira Academy will again take part in the event.
Pomodoro Restaurant, Wilderness, and Café Gannet of Mossel Bay have taken part for the past eight years. Salina's from Wilderness and Fancourt have taken part for the past seven years.
The quality of the cuisine at the event is guaranteed by the superior standard of the 17 restaurants taking part. What is the secret to the success of this event? The prime motivation behind the Carpe Diem School Gourmets and Gourmands, championed by Hartmans, is the desire to create change.
Over the past decade donors have seen that from their gifts came effective development for the special needs children of the school. In the past three years electronic wheelchairs were bought, bathrooms in the hostels were made accessible for disabled children, the roof of the square was closed, the computer laboratory was upgraded, the floor of the basketball court was renewed, and a new feeding scheme was established in the eating area where about 140 children will be fed.
The mission of this remarkable school is always defined clearly, and the vision and dream to serve the children is foremost.
