KAROO NEWS - In just less than 200 kilometres you can do a circle route from Oudtshoorn, towards the Cango Caves, up the magnificent Swartberg Pass and down the other side to the beautiful village of Prince Albert.
All of that is only about 70km and you can return at a leisurely pace from Prince Albert through Klaarstroom, Meiringspoort and De Rust and be back in Oudtshoorn in time to light the fire for your evening braai.
Both Prince Albert and De Rust offer a selection of quaint shops, eateries and some wonderful architecture. Although Klaarstroom has only one street lined by about ten buildings, the hotel and Goods Shed are worth a visit.
Should you have a 4x4, a spirit for adventure and two days at your disposal, you can always swing off the Swartberg Pass and drive to hell and back.
Hidden in the folds of the Swartberg Mountains is Gamkaskloof, or better known as The Hell. It's a scenic but strenuous drive. You would need a permit from CapeNature before setting off.
