DYSSELDORP NEWS - The Oudtshoorn Municipality has informed residents that water shortages are currently being experienced in Dysselsdorp and parts of the Klein Karoo Rural Water Supply Scheme (KKRWSS) east of Oudtshoorn.
The disruption follows a major mechanical failure at the Dysselsdorp Water Treatment Works, which has affected the Municipality’s ability to pump potable water to supply reservoirs.
In response, the Municipality has activated emergency measures to minimise the impact on affected communities. Water tankers are being deployed to supply critical areas, while assistance has been requested from neighbouring municipalities and supporting organisations.
Water storage tanks will also be positioned at strategic locations and regularly filled to serve as community collection points.
Residents and institutions that already have water storage facilities, including elderly care centres, facilities for persons with disabilities, schools, clinics and old age homes, are encouraged to make themselves known to the Municipality. These tanks may be included in the emergency supply programme, provided reasonable access is granted to neighbouring residents needing to collect water.
Residents requiring assistance or wishing to coordinate water deliveries are urged to contact the Municipal Control Room on 063 651 4675 or 063 651 4676, where all distribution efforts will be managed.
The Municipality has apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured residents that every effort is being made to restore normal water supply as soon as possible.
