Your voice matters in shaping the long-term management and maintenance of the Grobbelaars River

OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Community members and sector stakeholders are reminded of the second meeting of the Grobbelaars River Maintenance Management Plan (MMP) Steering Committee that will take place at 18:00 on Monday 21 September at Cango Wildlife.

The meeting will also be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person.

The MMP aims to establish a framework for the responsible maintenance, rehabilitation and long-term management of the Grobbelaars River, particularly once rehabilitation work has been completed.

Cango Wildlife is co-ordinating the process on behalf of the private sector.

According to Douglas Eriksen, CEO of Cango Wildlife, the organisation remains committed to maintaining momentum in the process and ensuring stakeholders receive clear and timely communication about progress, upcoming meetings and engagements with relevant authorities.

Dr Nina Viljoen, head of Environmental Management at the Garden Route District Municipality, who is leading the process, will also attend in person and will open the review of her draft Terms of Reference.

The meeting will include the election of sector representatives. Each sector will elect one representative and one alternative to serve on the steering committee.

The sectors are:

Agriculture: Upper Catchment and Valley
Agriculture: Lowland and Downstream
Tourism
Business
Infrastructure
Conservation and Environment
Private landowners.

Nominate and RSVP

Stakeholders are encouraged to ensure their sector is represented at the meeting, either in person or online, so that nominations can be made and representatives elected.

Sectors that have not yet submitted a nomination can do so via the nomination form before 12:00 on Monday 21 September.
