ELECTION NEWS AND VIDEO - The results are in and although the figures will have to be verified by the electoral commission in Pretoria, provincial electoral officer Courtney Sampson to loud applause said that the figures reflected on the big screens in the results centre "is what the outcome is."
He jokingly said to Alan Winde, who attended the final press briefing that, depending on the DA party leadership, he may be the next premier of the Western Cape.
The top six parties in the Western Cape after the 2019 provincial election is the Democratic Alliance (55.58%), ANC (28.50%), EFF (3.98%), GOOD (3%), ACDP (2.67%), and Freedom Front Plus (1.58%).
The 66% voter turnout may have been somewhat less than the 2014 turnout, Sampson said, but he added that there was a much bigger voters roll.
Sampson called on political parties to "show the citizens of South Africa graciousness - both in defeat and victory."
Political parties will have until 21:00 on Friday, 10 May to lodge complaints of a material nature with the electoral commission in Pretoria.
"Now we all will go back to the drawing boards and ready ourselves for the upcoming local government elections, "Sampson concluded."
