PRINCE ALBERT NEWS - A 29-year-old man appeared in the Prince Albert Magistrate’s Court today, 8 April, after being arrested in connection with a drug seizure valued at an estimated R165 000.
According to Southern Cape Police Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, the arrest forms part of ongoing crime-combatting operations conducted by members of the Central Karoo Flying Squad.
Spies said officers set up a vehicle checkpoint on the N1 at the entrance to Prince Albert on Monday, 6 April, where a passenger bus was stopped and searched.
“During the inspection, members noticed a passenger jumping over a farm fence and attempting to flee on foot. Police immediately gave chase and, with assistance from the farm owner, apprehended the suspect. He was later linked to a travelling bag found on the bus containing two bales of dagga.”
The drugs were confiscated, and the suspect was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs. He remains in custody while the matter proceeds through the court process.
