BUSINESS NEWS - In the heart of the Little Karoo, Caring Hearts of Hope, is lighting the way for those who need it most.
Founded in March 2024 by a group of eight dedicated local women, this faith-based nonprofit organisation is driven by a shared commitment: to give back to the community that shaped them and to create opportunities where hope may sometimes feel out of reach.
According to co-founder Franciska Garland, Caring Hearts of Hope was created from a deep love for the Klein Karoo and its people.
“Growing up here, I witnessed both the incredible resilience and the real challenges our community faces. This organization was founded on the belief that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and hope. Our goal isn’t only to assist, it’s to empower. When we unite as a community, we can create extraordinary change.”
A mission rooted in community
Born and raised in Oudtshoorn and the surrounding areas, the founders of Caring Hearts of Hope understand firsthand the needs, challenges, and dreams of the people. Their mission is to educate and elevate vulnerable individuals by providing accessible, meaningful support and resources.
Garland says the organisation envisions a future where every person, regardless of their circumstances, can thrive.

Identifying and supporting the most vulnerable
They adopt a hands-on, community-first approach to uplift those most in need.
“Working closely with schools, community leaders, and social services such as the Youth Center, Thusong Center, the Department of Social Development, CWP, and ACVV Dysselsdorp, the team ensures that support reaches the right people at the right time.”
Their focus is directed toward communities facing high levels of poverty, unemployment, and limited access to basic services. They address needs such as food security, education, social inclusion, and opportunities for youth. Eligibility is assessed holistically through factors like household income, parental background, and demonstrated need, ensuring fairness, dignity, and impact.

Changing lives through projects
Since January 2025, the organisation has launched a range of dynamic outreach programs that are already transforming lives:
- Monthly meal kitchens where they provide warm, nutritious meals every month to between 100 and 200 individuals in low-income neighborhoods.
- The organisation provides free school uniforms to first-graders. After assisting 10 children in 2024, the program expanded to reach 40 children in 2025.
- In partnership with the Youth Center and Thusong Center, students receive academic support through resume workshops, study-skills development, and career counseling.
- To honour the elderly, they also treat seniors at ACVV Dysselsdorp to manicures, pedicures, and haircuts, restoring dignity, comfort, and joy.
- Talented young athletes from low-income families gain access to equipment and local tournaments, helping them pursue athletic dreams without financial barriers.
New partnerships and upcoming projects
The organisation’s vision is ever-growing, and its upcoming initiatives promise long-term, sustainable change:
- A new scholarship is in development to support underprivileged athletes with training costs, equipment, and opportunities to compete at higher levels.
- In partnership with the Department of Social Development and the Community Work Programme, Caring Hearts of Hope aims to open a fully functional library at Volmoed Primary School by March 2026, expanding literacy and learning opportunities for generations to come.
- Following the success of their inaugural Masquerade Gala held on 29 November at the VGK in Bridgton, the team continues to host community-driven fundraising events, including cooked-meal sales and raffles, ensuring sustainability for all outreach programmes.
