OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The Oudtshoorn Municipality gave an update on road closures due to the recent rains.
According to Aurelia Mle, liaison officer for the municipality, Meiringspoort remains closed and will stay closed for at least the next two days, as the river is still flowing strongly with more rain expected today.
"Before reopening, a road engineer will inspect for any potential damage."
Additionally, Swartberg Pass will remain closed until further notice.
Some of the low water bridges in town are closed to traffic. "Please do not attempt to cross any bridges that are overflowing, as this poses extreme danger. Closed bridges are those on Rademeyer Street, Albert Street, Church Street, and Van Der Riet Street. Please also monitor Bloem Street, Vrede Street, St John Street, Victoria Street, and Noord Street. If you see water flowing over these bridges, do not attempt to cross."
