MOSSEL BAY NEWS - South Africa's best light bait boat anglers won the Fishing World Games in Mossel Bay.
Both men and women teams walked away with gold medals. As part of the Fishing World Games, Mossel Bay hosted the light bait boat angling section of the Games. About 1 800 anglers from 53 countries worldwide started angling on the South African coast and at dams and rivers from Saturday, 9 February till Saturday, 16 February.
They competed in various sections of sea and fresh water angling.
The best of the best from three countries participating in the World Light Bait Angling Association division, South Africa (SALBA), Namibia and Zimbabwe, competed from Thursday, 14 February in the Mossel Bay area.
According to Ronnie Groenewald, president of SALBA, the competition took place on a strict catch and release basis.
The winning South African women's team consisted of Vanessa Stammer, Fiona Babich, Christa Schutte, Suzette Lewis and Lizet Strydom (manager). Anton Williams, Shane Webb, Joseph van Huystene, Pieter Smit and Mike Babich (manager) made up the men's team.
