OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The yearly Meals on Wheels Extreme Ride for Hunger cycling tour will start in Kimberley, on Sunday 4 March and end on Wednesday 7 March at the Meals on Wheels Tygerberg Centre in Cape Town.
Spokesperson for The cycling tour en Meals on Wheels, Angelique Murphy, said an estimated 16 cyclists are expected to participate in the tour which will be an approximate distance of 1156km, passing through the following towns:
- Ritchie Hopetown,
- Strydenburg,
- Britstown,
- Victoria West,
- Nelspoort,
- Beaufort West,
- Klaarstroom,
- De Rust,
- Oudtshoorn,
- Calitzdorp,
- Zoar,
- Ladismith,
- Riversdale,
- Heidelberg,
- Swellendam,
- Riviersonderend,
- Caledon,
- Grabouw,
- Sir Lowry’s Pass,
- Somerset West,
- Strand,
- Khayalitsha and
- Tygerberg.
The cyclists and their crew will arrive in Oudtshoorn on Tuesday 6 March, where 34 families will receive food parcels.
From Oudtshoorn they will on Wednesday 7 March cycle via Calitzdorp to Riverdale.
Murphy said their goal is to raise R75 000 that will be used for a community garden, groceries and food.
On the route we will be distributing care packages for the elderly, warm cooked meals, food parcels and stationary packs.
