Local lifters Jaque Fourie, Anneke Jordaan, Christo Jordaan, Stephen Stander, Niel Colburn and Ettiene Combrinck were all included in the team to Johannesburg.
Niel Colburn was the overall best lifter at the trials and smashed three Eastern Cape records in the 74kg senior division with a total of 545kg comprising of a squat of 190, bench press of 140kg and deadlift of 215kg.
Newcomer Duane Butler showed great potential in his first competition by winning the 66kg senior division with a squat of 150kg, bench press of 92,5kgs and deadlift of 165kg totalling 407,5kg.
Ettiene Combrinck bettered his own Eastern Cape record in the 74kg master 1 division with a strong pull of 190kg. His squat of 125kg and bench press 92,5kg earned him a total of 407,5kg.
Father and daughter, Christo and Anneke Jordaan, were some of the lifters honoured at a banquet after the trials for excellent performances in 2011.
Commonwealth Champion Anneke Jordaan received the trophy for the best sub-junior lifter whilst Christo Jordaan received the Senior Powerlifter of the Year trophy for the third time in a row. He also collected the master 1 trophy.
