OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The second SWD Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SWDMCA) competition of 2025 delivered an action-packed showcase of energy, skill and spirit as top teams from across the region gathered in Oudtshoorn on 31 May to compete.
In the fiercely contested primary and high school elite divisions, Van Reede Junior and Senior Schools dominated the floor, securing first place in every major section, including solos, duos, small and large groups across all disciplines: baton, mace, flag, pom/non-prop, and small drill.
In the junior primary division (Grades 1 to 3), Saturnus stood out as clear champions, particularly excelling in the junior primary small drill category, a section unique to regional-level competitions.
The SWDMCA also welcomed a new addition to its growing family, with Langenhoven Gimnasium debuting in the performance cheer category. In this vibrant division, the crowd-favourite Point High School (PHS) Sirens wowed judges and spectators alike, claiming the top position with their high-energy routines and polished execution.
The Presidents League (B-League) brought together a competitive mix of schools, all competing for qualification to the South African Majorettes and Cheerleading Association's National Championships, which will be hosted in Oudtshoorn this July.
Among the contenders were Sacred Heart, Saturnus, De Rust, HD Majorettes, Bridgton Secondary School (BSS), Hoërskool Môrester and St Mary's.
Saturnus led the rankings in the primary school sections, while BSS made a strong showing in the high school categories.
