CYCLING NEWS - Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka’s Edvald Boasson Hagen came very close to victory on stage 3 of Tour of Britain.
In a new photo-finish verdict, Boasson Hagen had to settle for second place once again.
“The team was perfect again today. They led me into the final, all the way up until the last hundred metres. Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish it off. However, I will continue to try,” Boasson Hagen said after the race.
After losing out to Caleb Ewan (Orica-Scott) in a very close photo-finish on stage 1 and being relegated after crossing the line first on stage 2, Boasson Hagen was extremely eager to pay back his teammates with a victory on Tuesday’s stage 3.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka did well to help keep the early breakaway in check and when it all came back together with 10 km left to go, the whole team got around Boasson Hagen and went to the front.
A few riders tried to break away on the final kilometres.
Philippe Gilbert (Quick Step Floors) put in a dangerous attack on the slightly uphill finish but neither the former world champion managed to keep the peloton at bay.
