The championship is being hosted by the Outeniqua Airgun Club at the George Sport Shooting Club next to the George Show Grounds.

Following the 3-day Air Rifle Field Target event at Kommandonek near Hartebeespoort Dam, six Protea air rifle field target shooters will be off to the International Championships in Italy in August this year.
Wian Strydom from Pretoria emerged as South African Air Rifle Field Target 2022 Champion following a sudden death shoot-out against Machiel Basson from the East Rand who ended second. In third place was Heinri Brink, also from Pretoria.
The nationals kicked off on Saturday 19 March in favourable conditions, but the competitors found the courses extremely tough – some even said they were the most difficult to date.
Due to the difficulty level, the daily scores out of 50, weren’t very high with the exception of a few star performers.
The top score on day 1 was 43, achieved by Wian Strydom, who also took top spot on day 2 with 44, but day 3 belonged to Machiel Basson, who shot a magnificent 47. Basson and Strydom tied at 130 out of 150, leading to the shoot-out that went Strydom’s way.
