The Municipal Public Accounts Committee will investigate whether there were any irregularities in the staging of the three-day soccer tournament last July.
The City spent nearly R27 million on the event. It had expected a profit of R34 million, but instead made just less than R2 million.
The ACDP's Grant Haskin says someone has to be held accountable.
“We will look at the expenditure, whether it was fruitless and wasteful to the extent that officials were involved in making decisions when they knew it was going to have this kind of outcome.”
The ANC's Xolani Sotashe says they will also approach the new Public Protector.
