FOOTBALL NEWS - Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela says his team are still in contention to win the league title despite losing to arch enemy Orlando Pirates 3-1 in an entertaining Soweto Derby on Saturday.
The defeat sees Chiefs drop down to fifth position, with Free State Stars and Maritzburg United climbing above them into third and fourth spot on the table respectively.
“Are we lagging behind a bit, yes. It was a massive opportunity for us to get closer to Sundowns. Orlando Pirates are there, it is a hell of a confidence boost for them. It could have been for us. That is the beauty of football,” Komphela told journalists at the post match press conference.
With just seven matches to go they are now eight points behind leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.
“We regret the fact that we lost the match. Our fourth loss in the season and the manner in which we lost it, completely uncharacteristic of us. We do not concede many goals and today we conceded three obviously against a good team,” Komphela said.
