Geolfa League games resume

FOOTBALL NEWS - Following the internal issues within the George Local Football Association (Geolfa) that led George Municipality and Safa Eden Region to suspend all league-related soccer activities at George Municipality facilities, league members had a meeting last weekend about the development of football in George and the way forward.

According to Safa Eden Region president Siyabonga Chris Tyhawana, the domestic league teams have agreed to play only fifteen games in the preparation phase for the upcoming inter-local football associations play-offs.

The inter-LFA play-offs will take place in Mossel Bay on the last weekend of August. He added that each team will be playing more than one game per day. It has been more than three months since Geolfa teams played any official league games.

Zama Gagu of George Herald was there when Fast Eleven Football Club defeated Paris United with a humiliating score of 6-0 at Thembalethu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The goals were netted by Siyavuya Myana, Aphelele Gili (brace), Sonwabile Mafukula, Mkhanyisi Manciya and Mzikayise Ncithingana.

In the fast-paced first half, both sides were using their wings to break through their opponents' defenders. Siyavuya Myana registered the first goal, putting Fast Eleven on the lead after Paris United defence failed to clear the ball inside the box. Fast Eleven kept on pushing and scored their second goal while Paris United's goal chase had no success. The first half ended 2-0 for Fast Eleven.

The second half saw both sides looking dangerous on the ball with Paris United grinding for their first goal. Fast Eleven netted their third goal after a set piece from the left side of the field,

All efforts by Paris United to come back into the game failed. Fast Eleven were using their strength on the ball and scored three quick goals in the last minutes of the game to make it 6-0 and ensure they collect maximum points.
