FOOTBALL NEWS - Ladies football legend Desiree Ellis has been appointed as Banyana Banyana head coach.
The South African Football Association (Safa) made the announcement on Thursday.
Ellis, who has been acting in this position for 18 months, is also the former midfielder of the team.
While she was interim coach, Banyana Banyana were named the African National Women's Team of the Year and in 2017 the team won the Cosafa Cup.
Addressing the media, Safa president Danny Jordaan said they are glad to announce the appointment of Ellis as Banyana Banyana coach and that she fully deserves the appointment as she has come through all the ranks of the national teams.
"Desiree has three tasks to achieve; qualify for Afcon 2018 in Ghana, qualify for Fifa World Cup and qualify for the Olympics.
"I am confident Banyana Banyana will be up to the task," said Jordaan.
Banyana will depart for the Cyprus Women's Cup today and will play their first match on Wednesday 28 February against Slovakia.
